‘Tis The Season For The Peeing Falalalalala…La On Your Floor…

by Jamie on December 22, 2011

Yup. I thought I was in the clear. Smooth sailing…the forum's been super quiet. I didn't even think I was going to have to bring this up. And then yesterday, the trickle of problems started rolling in. And gaining momentum.

Do you remember my Halloween warning? About how the excitement of a big holiday can screw with your potty training? Well, take Halloween and mulitiply it by like, 4 billion and you get Christmas.

Even if you don't celebrate. Even if you are of another faith. Even if you have done your damndest to keep things quiet and to a mininum.

IT'S IN THE AIR, PEOPLE. Just ask anyone Jewish. You can't control the societal monster called Christmas.

Regardless of how prepared you are or think you are,  this week is what I kindly refer to as a major clusterfuck.

Last minute details. More baking and cooking. Generally, more cocktails. The stress in the air is palpable. And people are driving like straight up morons. Even if you are well off, the economy and finances are a major downer for a lot of people. Everyone is either being supernaturally nice. Or crazy bitter.

This week, in schools, they almost stop teaching. There are shows at the school, little parties and lots of wintery, seasonal drawings. The little teaching that IS done will be completely repeated upon returning from winter vacation. Why? Because NOTHING is going in. The kids are out of their little gourds!

Then of course, for some, there's a frigging Elf who moves freely about the house in the dark. A big fat guy watching your every move AND he's cloned himself and is everywhere. AND THE LIGHTS!!!  Mother of Mary Poppins! The freaking lights are enough to make anyone pee their pants. And presents. Lots of wrapping, unwrapping presents. Things they didn't even know they wanted.

Our little ones are SO SUPER SENSITIVE to this collective vibe!

So, yes. Accidents can ramp up. Don't sweat it, especially if your kid (s) is well beyond the potty training process. If your child has done fabulous and suddenly can't keep it together…really, it's the holidays. Nothing more.  Keep on the horse. Do what you know to be true. Don't think of this as a backslide. Don't start bugging the hell out of the kid. Keep a vigilant eye and try not to hover. It's inevitable.

And this too shall pass.

And with that I bid you a Peaceful Solstice and a Happy and Safe Clusterfuck.
